Free PDF Download - Monster Index: Trolls
Oe/1e/BX Stats for 55+ Trolls & Troll-related Creatures

I know it's a been while since my last Monster Index, but this one's been a while in the making... and it's still just a beta version. By comparison, the Golem Index was a walk in the park.

If you're relatively new to this blog, and unfamiliar with these Monster Indexes... what I attempt to do, is put together a fairly exhaustive list of monsters that have a great variety of types (like lycanthropes, or giants, or spiders, or snakes), and present the monster info in a stripped down presentation that can be easily adapted to Oe, BX, and 1e (sort of like the old Monster & Treasure Assortment books did). Sometimes, the variants come from newer editions (particularly 3e and 3.5e), but I always try to infuse any newer creatures with an old-school vibe.

So today, you have at your fingertips a resource of 55+ trolls and troll-related creatures, including notes on regeneration for each. The other stuff is there of course (HD, Attacks/Damage, and the like). This is the first of the Monster Indexes that I'm officially referring to as a "beta" version, just because it was so overwhelming, I'm sure there are things that could be improved/expanded/etc.

New Monster Index: Oe/1e/BX Stats for 58 Golems
Free PDF Download - Monster Index: Golems

I know Halloween is not until next week, but here's a little something to get you in the mood... a Monster Index of Golems!

So before I get into it, a note: The same day I previewed the illustration for this index, Mike Monaco blogged about Frankenstein's monster not actually being a flesh golem (at least not in the original book).

So today, you have at your fingertips a resource of 58 golem types, including the requirements for creating them (spellcaster type and level, materials cost, and spell knowledge required). The other stuff is there of course (HD, Attacks/Damage, and the like).

New Monster Index: Oe/1e/BX Stats for 40+ Snakes
Free PDF Download - Monster Index: Snakes

I know I'm a little late to the Year of the Snake party, seeing as it began this past Sunday, but I had originally intended for today's post to be ready this past Monday morning. Unfortunately, it took a little longer to dig into the content than I thought it would.

Like the Monster Indexes that have come before this one (including the Lycanthrope Index, Giant Index, and Spider Index), today's PDF (Monster Index: Snakes) gives you OSR stats and information for 40+ snakes, including notes on their poisons, special attacks, etc.

From adder to viper, constrictors and poisonous snakes alike, this PDF has your snakes need covered, from tongue to tail. It includes not only the stock of serpents common to the various early editions, but stats out some that were left incomplete, and adds some completely new ones to the list (like the giant two-headed snake).

Free PDF Download: Creatures of the Steppe

I feel bad that the Mongolian adventure design contest over at William's Great Khan's blog is getting off to a slow start. I'm as guilty as anybody else for having trouble getting my thoughts together. So to help us all out, I've put together this Monster Index Supplement featuring stats for key creatures (i.e. "wandering monsters") in a Mongolian steppe environment, including some species specific to the region (like the manul and the argali sheep).

It includes stats for my crimson death worm and khiimori. You'll also see a listing for "phase giant." That full entry is coming on Monday (keep an eye out for it). You might also see the yak-man is missing. I debated this one, but decided they were more of a civilized humanoid than "monster" so they didn't feel like they belonged on the page (but feel free to incorporate them into your designs).

New Monster Index: Oe/1e/BX Stats for 30+ Spiders!
Free PDF Download - Monster Index: Spiders

AN EXHAUSTIVE OLD-SCHOOL INDEX OF SPIDER INFORMATION!

First it was stats for 30 dinosaurs. Then it was stats for 71 lycanthropes. Last go 'round, it was stats for 50 giants. And since you seem to love downloadin' 'em as much as I dig compiling them, here come the 31 spiders!

Like the Monster Indexes that have come before, I've combed a couple of decades' worth of 1e, 2e and BECMI resources for stats and information on all the spiders I could find that still felt old-school, adjusted a few other so they would be, and then added 1 or 2 or 3 (e.g., my bone tarantula and taroltula creations, and most recently the giant trogloraptor spider). In this 4-page PDF you'll find stats for 31 spiders (mainly of the "giant" variety), including number appearing and (in some cases) lairs and locales.

Please note! This is really a working document, but it should be 99% complete. It just means that I have not given it a thorough proofing, though I did give it a couple of "once overs."

Giant Week Day 1: Oe/1e/BX Stats for 50 Giants!
Free PDF - Monster Index: Giants

AN EXHAUSTIVE INDEX OF GIANT INFORMATION!
Let me start by saying, this is not a "pocket-sized" index. It is a 7-page letter-sized PDF and the image above is for effect. I just don't want anybody saying, "Awww. I thought it was going to be tiny. That would have been cool!" (Yeah, sure. Until you tried to read it.)

Like the Lycanthrope Index, I've combed a couple of decades' worth of 1e, 2e and BECMI editions, manuals, appendices, and Drag-mag articles for stats and information on all the giants I could find that still felt old-school, adjusted a few other so they would be, and then added 1 or 2. In this 7-page PDF you'll find stats for 50 different giants, including the physical description (incl. height), treasure type, intellgience, alignment, locales in which they're found, and type of lair (and in some cases, their in-lair animals).

Hex Crawl Week Day 2: Oe/1e/BX Stats for 71 Lycans!
Free PDF - Monster Index: Lycanthropes

AN EXHAUSTIVE INDEX OF LYCANTHROPE INFORMATION!
I've combed a couple of decades' worth of 1e, 2e and BECMI editions, manuals, appendices, and Drag-mag articles for stats and information on all the lycanthropes I could find, and filled in the blanks with a couple dozen new were-types. In this 4-page PDF you'll find stats for 71 different lycanthropes, including treasure type, alignment, and locales in which they're found!

PLEASE NOTE: Blood not included (it's just for effect in the image.)

d30 Feature of the Week: d30 Dinosaur Encounters w/ Stats

Let's face it, when it comes to dinosaurs, "you can't tell the players without a program." And forget about trying to look at the length of the damn things in correlation to their hit dice, and then guessing the basic shape of the dinosaur from the number of attacks or special armor class conditions. And then there's the fact that what we used to call the "brontosaurus" in the 70s and 80s is now officially the "apatosaurus."

Consider this your program. It includes all of the major prehistoric players (dinosaurs and pterosaurs) covering all the bases of the 1e MM, BX Blue, and module X1, as well as newer discoveries that post-date those editions (like the velociraptor.)
